We live and own property in an area that is vulnerable to wild fire. We, as property and home owners, have the collective responsibility to reduce the threat of wild fire by reducing the fuel load on our property. This protects our precious homes and those of our neighbors as well.
We are excited to share that our neighbor, Bill Davis, is actively working to renew our neighborhood’s Firewise USA® recognition for 2025.
This national certification, administered by the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA), recognizes communities that take proactive steps to reduce the risk of wildfire. It’s not just a badge of honor—it’s an important part of protecting our homes, property values, and the safety of our neighborhood. In a time when fire insurance is increasingly difficult to obtain, being a Firewise community can also serve as a valuable selling point and peace of mind for homeowners.

The Firewise USA® program supports communities that work together to:
We previously held Firewise USA® recognition and are working hard to renew that status for this year. Many thanks to Bill Davis for leading the charge!

The Arizona Department of Forestry and Fire Management has provided us with important information about wildfire safety and the "Immediate Zone"—the first five feet around your home or structure.
This area plays a critical role in reducing the risk of home ignition during a wildfire. According to current wildfire research, removing all combustible materials—plants, mulch, furniture, or other items—from this zone can significantly improve a home's chances of surviving a wildfire event.
The document below provides helpful background, including data from wildfire investigations and recommendations based on recent research.
If you have any questions, you’re welcome to reach out directly to Chris Reed, Fire Prevention Captain with the Department of Forestry and Fire Management, at creed@dffm.az.gov.
Stay safe and thank you for helping keep our community Firewise.
